Installing Windows from laptop.

The question is that can I install win7 to my hard disk from laptop?

I think my win7 got deleted or something, and I dont have the DVD for it to install on top of it. I can take off the hard disk from my pc and then don't know how to install win7 from my laptop.

No, you can't do that. You need the DVD unless the computer is a name brand computer with a recovery partition.

I'm going to guess that English is not your native language so we'll need to slow down and be more specific.

First, you cannot just copy Windows7 from your laptop hard drive to your desktop hard drive. It simply doesn't work that way.

Is your desktop a name brand PC or did you build it yourself? If it's a name brand PC, what is the brand and what is the model number? If you built it yourself, how did you get Windows installed?

Do you have a usb adapter so that you can back up any files from your desktop hard drive to your laptop? If you can do a factory restore of your desktop, you will likely lose any data you've stored on the hard drive.

yes you are right for the most part, that is why i think you should check the thread that i will like you to, because it will give you for the most answers and why am i asking this quastion. http://www.pcmech.com/forum/windows-...wont-load.html

well, to be more specific, I should say that the pc that i have was bought by my father, which is from POWERPC, has a logo of MDG made in Canada.

when I got it, it had its own Windows Vista installed, even tho another logo beside Intel Pentium DualCore says that ``designed for Windows XP`.

i didnt used it much, because Windows 7 came out and one of my friend went to FutureShop and bought one. So that is how I got my windows 7, from a friend.

yes, all my files are in danger and i need to save them somewhere. I actually have a FreeAgent GoFlex , which is a external hard drive, or portable hard drive, whetever you call it... 500GB.

if those information are not enough to help me to do what i can to get my pc back, please ask.

First, I'd strongly recommend purchasing a USB->SATA/IDE adapter so you can copy any important files from your desktop hard drive to your laptop. See this example.

Second, get the original installation disc from your friend and follow the steps at this link: Windows7 Startup Repair

well, thanks for the info, it was helpfull. the thing is that i wanted to safe my files which were in my Desktop Hard Drive, but failed to do so, as my friend told me that while i was unistalling (if you checked the link i gave you before) my antivirus, a virus probably came and did its job. delete my boot system or the whole windows. so there was only one thing do and i did, using the system recovery that came with my pc.

the sad thing is that the system recovery has windows vista and it was same as like taking the dvd from my friend and installing a fresh windows 7.

anyways, i got my pc back (atleast i can see the windows vista desktop) and ok with it, because my exams started already and probably i will use vista for now untill i will find time to install 7 again. or maybe 8 if comes out (dont know if its rumors that windows 8 is coming or so)

thanks again for your help.
