Windows Vista Firewall & Samsung PC Share Manager
Greetings all,
I've been having issues with the firewall blocking the connection between my TV and the PC. Previously I used Norton's firewall, allowed the permissions through Norton and it was no drama. However, I recently decided to get rid of Norton and run the built-in Vista windows Firewall, and whilst I have again allowed the program (Samsung PC Share Manager) as an exception, it nonetheless does not allow the connection through. Only when i disable the firewall does it work. For the time being I am simply running Comodo and have turned off the Window Firewall all together, however I would like to know if at all possible, should i wish to go back to the windows firewall, how would I go about allowing this device/program access through the Firewall? I hope the above makes sense... Thanks for your time!!! |

Did you use the norton remover tool ? It is the only way I get rid of Norton all together. That may be your problem.
Download and run the Norton Removal Tool to uninstall your Norton product | Norton Support |

Hi jdeb,
Thanks for the quick reply. Yes I did remove Norton using their remover tool. However, even when I was using Norton the PC Share Manager was able to detect and share files with my TV. It seems that it is purely something that the windows vista firewall is not allowing. Funnily enough, I got Comodo running last night and turned off the windows firewall all together and Comodo detected a new and seperate program called 'wiselinkpro.exe' that I had not ever seen or heard of before. I allowed 'wiselinkpro.exe' through the Comodo firewall and hey presto, it works! So, I figure I have 2 options: First, stick with the Comodo firewall and leave the windows one turned off. At least I know that this works and that I should still have good protection for my PC. Second, get rid of Comodo and go back to using the windows firewall, however if I do this I will need to find and allow 'wiselinkpro.exe' through the windows firewall. However, I have not tried this and it still may not work. Plus it seems that the windows firewall has been blocking this program without even letting me know what its doing (and yes, I did have the tick box enabled for notifications). Ill probably go with option 1 at this stage and see how Comodo works out for me. I've heard fairly good reports so far about it so may as well give it a chance. Plus, it seems anything windows related that's enabled on this thing gives me more dramas than its worth...

O.K. good deal, so you need the .exe to correctly use the T.V. and I assume you set it up correctly. Just in case for review.
www.samsung.com/us/pdf/dlna_guide.pdf Comodo is very good but you need to learn the program. It is not really a install and forget about it program. I may get corrected on this but if Windows does allow Samsung's executable, then you should not use their firewall because you may have to use it, right? I only say this because I trust Comodo ( + it is working) and my comment on MS is not worth saying because it is my opinion. |

Yep, followed the guide I had when I bought the TV. Mines a Series 6 TV so a little older and slightly different interface on the TV, but the PC setup is the same. Went through that last night and all good.
I dont quite follow your comment on the windows firewall allowing the samsung .exe and thus not using it? And just quickly on the Comodo side of things...I havent configured it yet (simply wanted to get this thing working first) so is there a decent guide somewhere that I could follow that would enable me to set it up optimally for my PC. Also, what exactly do you mean by not a forget about program. Is this something I'm going to have to constantly be on top of, or can it be setup once well and let to run on its own with minimal input? Thanks again! |
