Windows 7 64 Application Logo Issues

Over the past week Icons for various games and applications have gone missing, giving me the basic "this is a file of some kind logo" Any tips? I haven't used google yet as I am sure most of them have me delete vital files or some crap like that. Thank you.

You probably installed some software that made a change (registry) and unchecked "show desktop icons" in the desktop properties. Certain CD\DVD recording software can do this from my experience.

Hmm, I did do a clean up of my desktop by sorting things into folders. Do you think that would have some effect on it?

I do not know, maybe. I do not use my desktop as a folder per say, I just use it for temporary projects so I never really have to clean it up or organize. The majority of the PC's I work on have the desktop filled with shortcuts.

The behavior you describe is most common with poorly written software applications. The one's that comes to mind are DVD recording software.

Thanks, I will look. The closest thing I have to that is Fraps. But I managed to resolve it, so thanks a ton for your help.

Same here. I use my desktop more like a scratch pad. All my shortcuts are on the task bar or start menu. If I'm woking on a project I'll save the newly amended project to the desktop before I save it back to the original file. That way I don't lose any previous work, and I have a backup in case I make a change that's irreversable. Been there, done that.

BTW, the desktop cleanup probably saved all your shortcuts to a folder in its app location.

The desktop cleanup wizard built into windows, deletes the files and sends them to the recycle bin.(I think).
