License question

I have more then one HD in a PC. Can I put W7 on two of the HD's without it being a license problem?
Or any other kind of problem?

I know it sounds like a stupid question.

Thanks.

My Vista has a file called License.rtf found in the Windows folder.

Quote:
INSTALLATION AND USE RIGHTS. The software license is permanently assigned to the device with which you acquired the software. That device is the “licensed device.” A hardware partition is considered to be a separate device.
a. Licensed Device. You may install one copy of the software on the licensed device. You may use the software on up to two processors on that device at one time. You may not use the software on any other device.
Then again, I've heard others say its legal....but thay you might have to phone in for an activation code.

Can I ask WHY you would want to do that?

I do this and it works.

I do it because it allows me to have an earlier version in case the current version becomes corrupt or infested by malware. If this happens you switch C drives, update your folders from your external hard drive backup and you are back in business. No re-installing the OS or re-installing software necessary. Is this your reason as well?

It also does not trip "no genuine advantage", forcing you to re-validate your license.

To me it seems you are within Microsoft's user agreement because you are still using the same license on the same machine. There is also nothing that says you cannot have two copies of the same licence on two different drives.

I said it sounds stupid. Just to keep it simple, David M is about the same idea.
And a lot of it was / is, curiosity. I did read the Licensing Agreement and some other stuff pertaining to it first.
I came away thinking same box, it wouldn't be a problem.

thanks again

I read it. The question is how could it possibly matter to Microsoft if you have the same license on two different drives on the same computer? What difference does it make to them?

This would mean it is against Microsoft's user agreement to make a clone of a C: drive, which as far as I know is not against those terms and has never been described as against those terms in this forum that I am aware of. So what is correct?

The only difference is when you clone, you are cloning an already activated install. When you do a clean install on a second drive, it has to be activated and this is where you may have a problem. Save yourself some possible hassles and clone a good install and put that aside.
