Can't install win 7 on Dell D620

Let me start off by saying you guys/gals have a great forum here.
I have learned a lot in the past weeks I have been lurking around.

I have a Dell D620 laptop I'm having problems with.
It's a long story, I rather not bore you guys with, unless you feel it is necessary.
Basically, after weeks of having trouble with this dell,
I decided to buy a new HDD, upgrade to 4GB RAM and do a refresh OS install (win 7).

But everytime I try to install win 7 on my formatted HDD, I get a

Windows Boot Manager

file: \windows\system32\DRIVERS\arcsas.sys

Status: 0xc0000221

windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing, or corrupt.

Any advise would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Joe

Try running a hard drive diagnostic. It's possible that there are bad sectors on the drive.

Boot up the laptop, and when you see the dell logo, press F12. Then, select the diagnostics option.

That arcsas.sys file is a device driver for an Adaptec RAID controller. Does the D620 use a RAID controller? If so, you need to install that driver (usually need to press F6 to install other drivers during install).

The D620 uses a standard controller - there's no reason it should be looking for that driver.

How did you get into Dell diagnostics if this is a new hard drive? The diagnostics are on a factory hidden partition and F12 should have done nothing.

Oops, I missed that there was a new drive.

If you have the (green?) driver CD, boot from it. The diagnostic tool should be on there.

Well, after 3 attempts, I was starting to question my hardware.
So i loaded XP PRO to confirm. thus it's running XP right now.

I'd question what you used to install Win 7 - it sounds a bit fishy, like something you downloaded or got through less than legitimate channels.

You receive a "Stop 0x0000000A" error message in Windows XP

I think you are probably right. If you have a Dell Resource CD, boot with it and run full system diagnostics.

Download this to another computer and I believe that you can create a bootable Dell diagnostics CD:
