Argh - Microsoft website! - Please help me with this horrible site

Hi all,

I've been trying to do 2 things on the Microsoft website for hours without success - ARGH!!!

First of all, I'm trying to get 2 desktop gadgets - a wifi gadget and a calculator gadget...

Desktop gadgets - Microsoft Windows UK

Second, I want to upgrade to Windows 7 SP1...

Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932)

Googling these things only takes me back to these pages......ARGH!

Does anyone know where I can download Windows 7 SP1 32 bit AND get these two desktop gadgets?

TIA.

Sorry but the Microsoft website SUCKS!

Colin.

What OS are you running and what very specific troubles are you having with the two links you posted?

Are you using IE to view those sites?

Are you serious?

I CAN'T find a wifi and a calculator desktop gadget on that page, can you? (Yet I know they exist)

On the other link, I simply have no idea what download I'm supposed to clicking on to upgrade my copy of Windows 7 32 bit to SP1, do you?

I put in a faster/larger hard drive in my Acer Aspire One netbook and am just going througth the motions of reinstalling Windows.

I hate the Microsoft website - everything is overly complicated and other things are difficult to find.

I've been trying that but my netbook does not want to know - that's why I went directly to the Microsoft website.

You mean Windows Updates will not work at all?

Welcome to websites designed by large committees and people the opposite of Steve Jobs, (who knew how to say this is bull poop to bad web design).

Working your way through Microsoft's labyrinth of a website has always been difficult for me. The best thing to do is to Google what you need in Microsoft's website. Most of the time Google will take you right to what you need or provide answers in someone else's forum that will fix the problem.

EzyStvy asked a good question...
What OS are you currently using? What very specific troubles are you having with the two links you posted?

YES I was serious... Just a few days ago I ran into a similar thread...but the guy was trying to do the Win 7 Anytime upgrade on is Vista machine.. So when you said you were trying to upgrade your windows - it wasn't a stretch

GADGETS - did you read the disclaimer on the link you posted.

Disclaimers:

Some of these gadgets are third-party applications, not developed by Microsoft and its partners. Gadgets can access your computer's files, show you objectionable content, or change their behavior at any time. Only download gadgets from developers you trust. Odds are since you didn't find it on MS's web site you need to look elsewhere.

That's the point. I normally get my desktop gadgets from the Microsoft website and there used to be literally hundreds to choose from.

They have obviously taken them off their website. I'll keep looking though!

And yes, I did read the disclaimer.

I'm with David on this one. Microsoft's websites are often so horrible for locating what you need. I simply use Google to find stuff on the Microsoft website and I'm very successful. It makes me wonder why anyone would use BING (search engine by MS). Microsoft can't even make a user friendly search for their own website, so what makes them think they can manage searching the entire Internet. LOL
