laptop mouse not working

I have a gateway T series laptop. I was dragging a window to the side so i could see the rest of teh desktop and the window "stuck" to the mouse, I could not get the window unstuck so i hit Escape, now i cant get the mouse pad to work at all. I cant get into the "snapteks" or what ever its called to fix it. I got into teh mouse properties but cant change anything because the mouse doesnt work.

any ideas on what to do?

Go into device manager and roll back the touchpad mouse driver. Something may have corrupted it. If that does not work, try re-installing it. If you recently updated it, that may be the culprit. Sometimes windows update does it if your not careful as it would fall under an optional update.

yes a usb works, and i have gone through all the setting and cant find the problem. the right button works (brings up menus), left button does not and i cant "click" by touching the pad quickly but the pad does move the mouse.

Sounds like the touchpad itself is broken.

If a USB mouse works properly but the touchpad doesn't, it sure sounds to me like the touchpad and/or its buttons have a physical problem.

Try uninstalling the touchpad software and driver and use the standard Windows mouse driver - that MIGHT fix it.

Have you roll backed and/or reinstalled the driver?
