Vista won't load USB drivers...

...for the USB thumb drives.

Whenever I hook one to this Toshiba laptop (Satellite A210) it just puts the icon in the systray for the drivers install and then it takes forever. Finally, it reports that drivers are needed and I'm given the option to go online to download them; doing so, however, yields a message after a loooong time that there was a problem with the drivers and that they were not installed. Tried several times with the same result.

Any ideas?

In theory - you shouldn't have to install any drivers.

Does the drive work on any other machine?

I would remove the USB devices from Device Mangler and reboot.

I'm backing up the user's data as I type, there are also a number of other issues with this laptop. I think this is definitely a system reload.

Yep. No issues there when no USB flash drives were plugged in. As soon as you plugged one in, it'd shew up in yellow.

Now they don't, and can be mounted alright. Wonder if it's because I reset the laptop back to factory defaults?
