Win7 install on new hard drive
Hello. I am installing windows 7 on a new hard drive. (Currently running vista on what will now be data drive.) Do I just need to change boot priority to CD/DVD drive and restart with install CD in?

Yes. Do you want to migrate the data and settings from the Vista Drive?

Yup, that should do it. You might want to temporarily disconnect your old drive just to ensure that Win 7 doesn't accidentally get installed there.

If you don't disconnect the first drive you'll end up with a dual boot system....Which might not be a bad idea.

What mode is your SATA controller in - RAID, AHCI or SATA/IDE compatible? Have you tried a different SATA port?

First question: I am not sure. How would I glean that info?
Second question: yes, I tried a different SATA port. |

Not sure if this is right thing but I saw this:
OnChip SATA Channel = Enabled OnChip SATA Type = IDE (other options were RAID and AHCI) |

Try putting the old drive on SATA 2. If it isn't seen there, try putting the DVD on 2 and the old drive on 3. If it's still not seen, the drive or cable is bad.
