Windows7 split personality

Hello. I've restored my Windows 7 build to a larger partition using Acronis. I've 'repaired' the startup using the Win7 install DVD. Oddly the new build seems to have a split personality.

It is the new build loaded as it's on D: and cmd opens from D:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe but it defaults to w:\Users\'username' which was the partition of the old build.

How do I get it to default to the new build?

I'm worried that if I wipe the old build as I plan to do the new build will get very confused.

Any advice much appreciated.

Cheers,

Dazzer

Many thanks. But how do I make all the user locations, eg the hidden ones too, point to the new local location?

I don't know, if the pdf doesn't address that.

PC convinced root is elsewhere - how fix?

Hello.

I cloned my boot drive. It was w: it's now d:

I've got the users folder looking at d: but the build seems to still default to w:

How to I tell it that it's root is now d:

Help much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Dazzer

Threads merged to preserve continuity.

At this point, I'd seriously consider backing up your data, then wipe and reinstall from scratch. Windows REALLY prefers to be on C.

Hello again.

In fixing the registry I notice the Current path is pointing at w:windows while the system is pointing at d:windows --- should I make the pathname here d:windows as well as fixing the users in profile list?
