Hi Gang
Can some one tell me why there is always, and I mean always a problem with getting the latest Flash player installed. You can install it and everything showing indicates you have it installed right, and the next thing you click on that requires Flash player, says you need the latest Flash Player installed. And if you have it in installed, and you install it again it never says you have a previous version installed, do you want me to delete it, or install this one. Is there some thing else you can use instead of this troublesome program.? I cannot say how many times I have had problems with this, I don't have enough fingers and toes, to count the times. Thanx....Gunny

Maybe it's the browser.

It is more than likely a browser issue, let me guess... IE 9. Look for an update on your browser as well. I do not have any problems on my Windows box running Vista / Mozilla. Probably would not hurt to do a CCleaner of the registry as well prior to and after install. You definitely want to keep it updated for security. Another thing is you want to make sure all your browsers are closed when installing. Lastly, you were having issues with another media player as I recall so make sure it is either uninstalled or updated (even if you do not use it that much). Probably would not hurt to double check the default programs for your media players as well.

Hi Gang
I have to agree with you both, I think it is the Browser too. But why does some of these Browsers give you this problem with something that is nec. and has been around as long as it has. Would you blame the Adobe people or the Browser people.??? It feels like you would have to have several diff Browsers just so you can get all these things working right, and remember which works with which. :-) Ok then let me ask you this, what all around Browser have you found that works good with most things like this. I bet most of you will say Firefox. Thanx.....Gunny |

Never mind. Safari actually has troubles with Flash; I guess the Apple vs Adobe issue is still not fully resolved. Or maybe I need an update which I don't feel like installing.

Hi NUC
I do too any more you really have to be on your guard with installing things. The thing that really bugs me is this, after you do the install of Flash player, and it says it is installed and running properly, the very next thing you click on that needs it, it tells you the same old thing, like you did not just install it, now that is really aggravating. Do you know or have any idea of why this happens.? Thanx....Gunny |

It has happened to me before. I'd try rebooting the machine first (even though it might not prompt you to do so) and if that fails, then try another browser.
A warning: Flash is usually bundled with Google or McAfee crap, so be sure you're option out of that garbage when you download the Flash installer. |

Hi NUC
Ya any more I am very careful about the little added things they try to add to the downloads. I thought someone brought out a program that was supposed to give Adobe some competition.? Thanx...Gunny |

For Flash, I don't think so. Regardless, third party programs at best they merely try. Take the free Nuance PDF reader that comes preloaded with Arsus laptops: it doesn't integrate well with IE: it crashes it.

Hi NUC
Hey this means more work for you guys. The more screw ups the more chances you people will have to put on the the old thinking caps, and solve more problems. Now don't that make you feel needed. Thanx....Gunny |

I used to have problems with Flash installing (think I was using IE7 back then).....anyway, somewhere I read to disable any antivirus programs when installing Flash if you're having problems. I started doing that and haven't had that problem since. (Be sure to turn the AV back on when you're done though
). Might also help to use their uninstall tool to totally take the previous version off the machine first before installing the new version.

Hi Juppy
Yes I have done that before too, especially Microsoft Ess. That one interferes with a lot of things, but it is good. I do turn it off most of the time. Thanx....Gunny |

Hi Gang
I have tried several times, more like 6 times to install Adobe Flash and it does the little bouncing Adobe figure and says that Adobe Flash was installed successfully, and all that but I turn around and try to play some thing from MSN site that requires Flash, and I still cannot play it, it gives me the same old message, you must install the latest Adobe Flash player. Things like this really make using a computer frustrating, really. I have stopped all my virus programs, stopped IE, what else do I have to do to get this 2 bit program installed. Most programs don't give you this grief, even the big ones. Thanx.....Gunny |

HI JDEB
Ya I checked that it is enabled. For such a small program if you want to call it that it sure can put your patience to a test. :-) Thanx....Gunny |

Probably not what you wanted to hear, but have you tried an alternate browser? I believe IE uses an ActiveX Flash player but Firefox and others use a plug-in. I know you like IE, but it seems to me you have been having continuing issues of some sort with it. You can have several browsers installed - and some work better than others for specific things.
I have no suggestions for a fix, but this would be a workaround. I personally avoid IE like the plague, and have avoided it for over 15 years. |

Have you gone through the Flash options in the Control Panel?
Alternatively, try this link: http://www.macromedia.com/support/do...manager04.html Tinker with the options there and see. |

Hi GLC
Ya I know you don't like IE, and I have to agree with you, it can be a pain you know where. It is hard to teach an old dog new tricks I guess is the best way of putting this. One of these days I will change. But I think you are sort of like me in the way, if it is broke try to fix it. After all that is what this forum is all about. Sure it would a lot simpler to just download another Browser. And I guess you can say there is no perfect Browser, there are always going to be things you like and don't like. So lets see a show of hands as to what Browser I should use. Thanx....Gunny |

Why a show of hands? Try several and make your own decision!
My primary browser is Opera, with Firefox as a secondary. They both use the same plug-ins. |

Hi NUC
FLASH OPTIONS....What is that.? Ok while we are here, when I do download Adobe Flash why does it not show up as a program. When I click on the windows, and open it up to see all the programs, Adobe is no where to be found, I have thought several times maybe this is part of my problem. But I say to my self well it said it was a successful install, so why question it. Am I right or wrong in my thinking.??? Thanx....Gunny Last edited by redvette; 01-30-2012 at 11:58 AM. |

HI GLC
Why a show of hands, just to get more opinions I guess. Just because I want to see some other opinions, does not mean I will not check out several and make my decision as to the one I like best. I value all your opinions a lot. Thanx....Gunny |

Flash is never installed as a 'program' per se. It's more like a plug-in.
Open your Control Panel and you should see a Flash item. |

Double check for the latest active x version and plugin version using the flash applet that nuke told you. You will find it in the advanced tab. Delete browser data and setting as well. You have either a java problem, active x problem, or a bad update issue.

Speaking of ActiveX, have you also checked the Advanced options in IE? There might be some 'security' setting there preventing Flash from running.

An a lo bruto approach would be to lower the security levels in IE to its lowest and to disable Protected Mode. See if that helps.
If not, go into Custom Level, in the Security tab and enable everything! See if that helps. (Take note of the default settings, so that you can revert them to normal in case this doesn't solve the problem). |

Hi NUC
You must have been reading my mind, or some mental telepathy is going on. I did just that lowered it and disabled the protection mode, rebooted and the previews work great, on IMDB, both the standard and the 480p work, no on the 720p, stops and stutters. Thats ok I don't see any diff using that one anyway, 480p is good enough for me. I thought I had tried this before, but once to do so many diff things, things get a bit confusing. Thanx....Gunny |
