transferring from XP to Win7
I have a folder with info that is in Word. I tried to save it on a thumb drive and make a folder in my new win7 pc but it can't open it. I have a lot of info I want to save, is there any way to do it?

Is Word already installed on the Windows 7 machine?

thanks. no, word no longer comes with the OS. When I tried to open the removable drive it says it can't open "trash". I gues thats what the OS calls some data it can't open. I didn't want to buy word cause I don't really use it that much. It's just that when you save something in XP even in wordpad it saves it in word. So all my info that I have saved is in that format.

Word has never come with Windows. You need it or an alternative in order to open that file. If you use a word processing program only sporadically, you can download a copy of OpenOffice, which is 'free' and will allow you to open/print/modify any Word document.
I don't understand what you're saying about that 'trash' —and by the way, Windows never calls anything that, so it's not the OS problem. Can you elaborate? Does the flash drive shew in Windows Explorer at all? |

Download and install openoffice. It will open that file with no problems and you can edit it.
