Older scanner with Win7
I have an olden Visioneer OneTouch 5800 USB Scanner I'd like to use
under Win 7 64 bit, but there's no driver Win7 can find. Is there any way I can get this working until I get a newer model or do I need to drag out an older computer? I can't wait to get rid of all this old junk! I've already gotten rid of about 25% of it. Anyway, thanks!

Exactly the same problem I had. Initially I was able to get a driver from the manufacturer's website. Visit it. When I went back after going the 64 bit route the drivers for my model Visioneer were no longer provided. I ended up buying an $80 Canon Pixma for which I have no regrets. Likely that's what you'll have to do.

This scanner was given to me... I didn't know how old this thing was (but it looks great) The last pdf for documentation on the site was 2001! I'll drag out an old computer and see if that works anyway. I have some very important items to copy and time is short. Most likely will get a Cannon flatbed sometime soon from the egg. |

You could install VirtualBox and run XP in a VM.

Well, I don't own a license for XP.
All I have is a Mac and a newer PC with Win7 64 bit and that didn't even show up in Mac OS printers, but it did show up in sys profile. Plus, you need the original install driver to get any updates anyway. Basically this thing is a paper weight unless you run archaic OS and keep 10+ year old driver discs. So I guess I'll throw this old thing in the gaylord at goodwill with all the other crap I'm gonna pitch. Anyway, thanks! Last edited by ice_top; 02-21-2012 at 10:13 PM. Reason: add |

If you use the Anytime Upgrade to Win 7 Pro, the XP mode download is FREE, no XP license needed.

honestly, I don't even know if this thing works. Also, if I want to run programs and devices made for XP, I'll be good to go with Windows 7 Pro? I've run some older games and programs in HP that wouldn't have run otherwise had I not tinkered with the run for different versions of windows feature already included with home premium. Pro is really that more robust in support? I've read different opinions on whether it's necessary. I can take it down to the PC shop down the road and have the guy there test it to make sure it works. He has tons of XP PCs. He repairs, sells and builds. Thanks! |

Unfortunately, many of today's games will not play in Windows XP mode.
Install and use Windows XP Mode in Windows 7 Quote:

"XP Mode" is XP running in a virtual machine. It's not a point of Pro being more robust, it's a point of Pro allowing you to download XP and run it in a VM. It is effectively the same thing as running XP in VirtualBox in Win 7 HP.
In other words, pay for a XP license or pay for an upgrade to Pro. The third option, which is actually the most likely to succeed, is dual boot XP/7. |

Please excuse me for jumping in late. I had the same problem with a Visioneer One Touch 9420 which isn't all that old. I tried the XP mode but the scanner didn't work as well as in XP, I don't recall right now what it was I wasn't satisfied with but it just didn't work as well. So, as suggested above, I dual boot XP/7 and everything is good. If I want to transfer the files to 7 I use a flash drive. I used a program that helped me to setup the dual booting, it is pretty darn easy if I can do it, and it allows 7 to be the default. |

That won't work with that scanner - it requires a Visioneer WIA driver which is not available.
