Installing WIN 7 help request

Hi,

I have a partitioned HD (C,D) and I have been told that I can move my files to the D partition and install Win7 to the C drive, which means overwriting (I guess) the WIN XP install currently located there!

Is this correct? My current OS is Win XP SP3.

The C partition will have to be reformatted, so you do need to save your files somewhere. There is no in-place upgrade possible from XP to 7.

However, if you got the money and time, it is possible to upgrade from XP to Vista, and then from Vista on up to 7.

Correct, the D partition should remain untouched.

(I say "should" because you never know, something could go horribly wrong).

You won't have to do any pre-formatting though. The Windows 7 installation routine handles all that kind of thing.
