Hi gang
I am installing a legit copy of Win 7, it boots up to the disk, and when I click on install now, it sits a little bit then it gives me this little box. "Load drivers----A required C/DVD driver device is missing. If you have a driver, floppy disk, CD, DVD or usb flash drive, please insert it now". What gives with this. Thanx....Gunny

Is the hard drive IDE or SATA, and which exact port is it installed on?

Last question (I hope) - what mode is the SATA controller set to in the bios? Standard IDE, AHCI, or RAID?

Hi GLC
It is now set on AHCI, but I have tried the other ones too with no luck. I am now formating the HD I have made so many diff attempts at installing Win 7 I thought it better to start with a clean slate Thanx....Gunny |

It should install without drivers if it's set to Standard IDE.

Hi GLC
I will set it to the standard when this format gets done, and let you know what happens. To my knowledge the ones I can remember have always been set to this, and have accepted the install with no probems. Is it just this SATA HD that has conflicks with the MOBO.? I have read something about installing Win 7 from a USB flash drive, now that sounds a little far out, to me. Thanx....Gunny |

Hi GLC
It is an older CD/DVD drive it is IDE ribbon connection to # 1. It has 2 IDE connections,on the MOBO. I think he has tried a SATA CD/DVD drive in it with the same results, I will have to check on that, not positive. Thanx....Gunny |

Download the manual for the board if he doesn't have the printed manual.
There are 2 different IDE controllers on that board - the Intel ICH and a 3rd party controller. Make sure it's on the Intel ICH, if it's on the 3rd party controller that's why it's screaming for a driver. A SATA DVD drive will probably scream for a driver if the SATA controller isn't in Standard IDE. |

Nope, a full format can take hours. You may want to do a single pass zero fill instead, but that will probably take just as long.

Hi GLC
Well it finally is installing Win 7. It is at the last stages of the install now. So It was the settings of the IDE, using the SATA drive, or formating the HD that did it. I wish I could say exactly what corrected it, for my own info, and for the people here on PCmech. But I had to get this going for my friend. So I did all 3 at once. It skipped right over that driver business, and went right to the partition and the install. It was a little slow at the start but once it got to rolling it zipped right through it. Again much thanx to GLC, my mentor :-) You never cease to get my brain thinking in so many diff directions. That is the best kind of help you can get, offer suggestions and make you think. Thanx....Gunny |
