100% cpu in windows 7

I seriously don't know what's going on. I have run malwarebytes, microsoft secuirty essentials and spybot. Note* have to run the in safe mode, but did manage to run microsoft security essentials in normal mode.

I can't move. I can't move at all!!! task manager shows 100% cpu.
I look and I look and I look and nothing is taking up a lot of cpu in task manager.

What am I missing. I haven't been able to use the computer in over 2 days muddling around with this. I need new ideas.

And when you look in the Processes tab and sort (by clicking on CPU) Which tasks are using all the cpu?

I've seen it before where somethign is taking up the cpu and you can tell exactly what is doing it by looking in the task manager. This time (and I've seen this before too which always makes it a mystery) - this time, it really doesn't look like anything is hogging it up.
After receiving this reply, I haven't been able to even open task manager it's so bad.

However, I've slowly but surely doing things such as hijackthis, check disk, removing some programs etc. It's my works Windows 7 work computer Latitude d620 3 gigs of memory. I did just remove samantec which did seem like taking up a lot of resources. It's a little better right now but it's been known to be ok for a every short while and than act up again. I'll have to keep plugging away I guess.

So now that it's working a little better, you still can not see what is taking up resources?

Have you tried to run the Dell Diagnostics? Turn off the laptop and tap the F12 key when the Dell logo appears. You may have a hard drive failing or an overheating issue.

I'm currently not having the problem, after 3 days of painstakingly trying to muddle around it it, it's seems to be consistently fine. I think it was a combination of things and all the maintenance I did to it helped. I think overheating was part of it too. I usually keep it on a desktop and haven't seen any signs of overheating, but those 3 days, I was using it a lot on my lap on the couch and started realizing that it was getting way too hot.

I'm ok now. Thanks for replying back.
