I just finished some PC updates and replacements and I have this problem.
The bios sees my new media drive as does win7 but my two older drives, a usb back up as well as the archive file don't. The drive itself, WD black 2 TB is fine, it's just not seen by the other drives. What am I missing? edit : the 'C' drive was also replaced and Win7 reinstalled.

Can't say that I understand the question.
PC updates and replacements -> hardware of software updates and replacements? 1) Which drive do you boot off of? 2) What other drives are on the system Win7 has an option to HIDE empty drives(folder options)..Are the drive you can't see empty?

I replaced 2 of my drives, the 'C' which is new and has a fresh updated install of Win7 does see the 'E' drive ( It's listed in Computer shows up in Device Manager and so on.) as well as all the others and it can access it.
The 'E' drive, the other newly replaced drive, cannot have files sent to it from the older 'D' drive or from any attached usb drive/stick. I can only access the new drive from 'C' ( It was easy to move my iTunes media folder from 'C' to 'E' and to download an app and a TV show to the new drive from iTunes.). The 'E' drive does, however see the other drives and you can transfer files to the other drives from it. So a file will copy from "E' to 'D', for instance even though there would be no way to reverse that, copy from 'D' back to 'E'. |

Problem solved .
If I'd remembered to read my own notes this wouldn't have been a problem but ... I usually reinstalled my iTunes media by just hitting "send to" on the usb drive and sending it to the folder on my media drive, that came to a full halt yesterday. Only when I was going through my notes from last year did I find my warning," May no longer work on new install for media drive use My Computer to copy." and that was after I'd had to figure it all out again. That worked now I have to set up a new iTunes library folder and new data folder. Memo to self, if you have notes read them first "Windows giveth short cuts and Windows taketh them away.". |
