Windows 8 No Play

I have a DVD-R Verbatim Digital Movie I burned/copied on 2004 and always played. Now on Win8 it says can't play .vob file. So I put it on my laptop with Win7 and does just fine. Guess they forgot it in Win8.

You might try K-Lite codec pack or use VLC PLAYER.
K lite integrates with Windows to play different formats.
VLC PLAYER will play almost any video format.
Both are free.

Download K-Lite Codec Pack

Download VLC Media Player 2.0.5 (64-bit) - Technical Details - FileHippo.com

Edit: This might have something to do with your issue.
Source from K Lite site.

For an optimal user experience it is highly recommended to install both the 64-bit pack and also one of the 32-bit variants from above. That way you can play your media files in both 32-bit and 64-bit applications.

Many programs are still 32-bit, that is why you also need the 32-bit codecs. For example, a 32-bit version of Windows Media Player is used by default on 64-bit versions of Windows Vista/7/8.

Windows Media Center and Windows Explorer are 64-bit applications. Those will use the 64-bit codecs.

I'd use VLC rather than try to install codecs.

Here's a nice, quick, but informative article about Microsoft's decision to not include DVD playback (meaning no Blu-Ray playback either) -- for Windows 8 editions that don't include Media Center -- from ExtremeTech. How to play DVDs and Blu-ray discs in Windows 8 | ExtremeTech

They add another vote for VLC as an attractive no-cost option.

That's a bunch of bs just to play an 8 year old dvd of me swimming with the dolphins in Mexico. I'm dumping and going back to Win7. A new OS should be easier than previous versions; this one sucks as ME and Vista combined.

I'd even use VLC in Windows 7. It's FREE.

Windows 8 tries to Take over so they can sell their overpriced Apps..

All you need to do is rightclick on the VOB file and then select the APP you would like to Play the file.. Choose MEDIAPLAYER and then be sure to have it set as DEFAULT PLAYER. thats it and it will Play just beautifully

The same Counts for Pictures, PDF, DOCS , XLS etx..
