ASUS b43j and Windows 8.
I have an ASUS B43J laptop that has Win 7 Pro on it and I tried to install Windows 8 Pro and the install goes fine and when it does it's last restart and then tries to load into windows it goes as far as the spinning icon thing then the screen goes black.
The Laptop is still running at this point and I can not get a hold of ASUS,can anyone tell me if this laptop supports Windows 8,I checked to see if I could find Windows 8 Drivers on the ASUS site but it looks like most are still the same drivers the laptop shipped with.

Thanks for the help GLC,do think it might be that my screen may not be a touch screen.

No, Windows 8 can be installed on conventional computers.
My question is this - WHY do you want Windows 8? Is there something you need to do that requires it? |

Hi
I'll jump on the bandwagon on this one. Just stick with Windows 7, there's no real reason to upgrade to Windows 8 if you don't have a touch screen device. While Windows 8 does increase performance a little it isn't worth all the hassles that go along with it. If I had it to do over again I'd have purchased my new computer with Windows 7. Mike |

I am using Windows 8 on a desktop computer without a touch screen and I also have Windows 7 on the same computer. I now use only Windows 8 and there is a large performance increase over Windows 7. Almost everyone that I know that has Windows 8 did not like it after they had it installed and swore they were going to remove it and re-install a previous version of Windows. I tried to encourage them to get Windows 8 setup in a manner that they like (such as running IE 10 as a desktop app and not a Metro app), and I was sure that they would grow to like it. Out of 7 persons that installed Windows 8, only one person went back to Windows 7 and I believe that is because she never gave Windows 8 a chance.
I also installed it out of curiosity and soon realized that I was not going back to Windows 7. There is nothing wrong with Windows 7 but Windows 8 is faster, less bloat, and does many thing in a better manner than Windows 7. Well you now have heard my 2 cents on the subject, it is my story and I am sticking to it.

That pretty much sums up how I feel about it, I'm not really going to go back to Windows 7, there is a performance boost with Windows 8 and it's stable.
I beta tested Windows 8 for a year before it came out, and I liked it up to a point so I bought my new computer with it. But on the other hand I wouldn't really recommend for anyone to upgrade unless they have a specific reason to do so. It's just not worth the hassle. In many ways Windows 7 is more usable for my work flow. But I use Classic Shell and for the most part it isn't too bad. There are things I really don't like though, like the inability to do a repair install without losing your installed software and the files on your C:\ drive. I've used that feature in Windows 7 many times. I have to add that all my games run great in Windows 8, even really old stuff like Tomb Raider from the 90s. And the new stuff really rocks. Wade7575 do you still need help getting windows 8 to work on the B43j?? I have the exact same laptop and have figured out how to get it to work. Just let me know

You need to have windows 8 installed even though it wont show on your laptop screen. Use a VGA and connect the laptop to an external display. Download this driver here http://www2.ati.com/drivers/beta/AMD...lity_Beta3.exe. Once it installs reboot and thats it.
