Stores have only Vista today

Hi.. reading today's newspaper, not one computer in the ads at CompUSA, Bestbuy, Office Depot, etc., had the XP OS installed, only Vista. Does this mean that they are shipping back all the XP machines, or did they possibly use a Vista upgrade package on all the in-stock XP computers? I know several people who were hoping for great prices on the remaining XP machimes at these stores. Just as with XP, I'm sure upgrading rather than a clean install of Vista will not give as stable a machine.

Also, for Vista, I read an article that states you should have at least 1GB, and preferably 2GB of RAM, as well as a graphics card with an independent 256 to 512 MB RAM on it for Vista to behave correctly. Sound right?

Thank you,

Oh yeah, Vista is a bugaboo on your system. You have to be rather up to date to use it.

I agree with the 1GB of memory requirement, but 256-512MB of video card memory? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think most of the name brand computers use onboard video, and I believe I heard some onboard video would be sufficient for most Vista features, if not a simple 128MB video card.

1GB on Vista is equivalent to 512MB on XP, 2GB is better.

You won't need a 256M card to run Vista. You will need it to run Aero, the sexy graphics.

Thank you all for your replies.

Shanks.. I like and have XP, but as I said in my original note, the store's ads didn't list computers with XP. I've built several of my computers, and will put the copy of XP that I have on my new one, but some friends can't do this, and will be getting Vista.
