Does anti-virus software work with Vista?

Does anyone know if Norton Anti-Virus 2005 works with Vista (Home Premium)?

I have an unopened unregistered version of NAV2K5 on CD and don't have AV protection on my laptops newly installed Windows Vista.

TIA.

Colin.

Avast was the first to offer a free antivirus for Vista that worked. AVG's version 7.5 now seems to run well on the Vista platform too. Do yourself a favor and put that Norton disk back in storage - or better yet, donate it to someone you don't like! (j/k)

Does PC-Cillin Internet Security 2007 work well with Vista? I have 2006 on an XP system and have had good luck with it. However, I briefly upgraded to 2007 recently because Trend Micro gave me the upgrade for free. I didn't have time to investigate thoroughly, but as soon as I upgraded I started having problems with IE7. There would be a lag or freeze whenever I tried to open a link in an email. Sometimes, my browser would just freeze while I was scrolling through a webpage. This was happening quite often, even after I updated everything and tried disabling some of the web filtering capabilities of PC-cillin. The problems did not occur when I used Firefox instead of IE7. I was so frustrated, I rolled back to 2006.

Trend Micro's website claims 2007 is certified for Vista, but I'm a little doubtful after my experience. I read mixed reviews from other users. Some say 2007 is crap (some specifically mentioned compatibility issues with IE7) and others say those having problems just don't know what they're doing.

I am seriously considering installing a second hard drive in my PC and installing Vista on it, creating a dual-boot system with XP Pro and Vista. So I need an anti-virus rpogram that will run on the Vista OS. Is PC-cillin 2007 a good choice?

Thanks,
Jill

Trend PCC 2k7 prior to the official release of Vista was not for Vista and there were issues with Vista (Trend PCC ran a beta program for the Vista compatible version). However, since Vista's official release the PCC2k7 version has also graduated to Vista compatible (if you are a registered user of PCC 2k6 the version is available to you for free as an upgrade .. you can download and use your original serial number).

Use a review that has been tested with the final versions of both Vista and PCC 2k7 .. I'm running both and can honestly say that its seamless on both XP and Vista (dual booting). The only thing that bugs me is the safe software list which is quite useless for me .. it even asks permissions for Firefox updates.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll give it a shot. Oh, and I agree about the new safe software thing; I wasn't particularly impressed with that either.

OK, I've been using AVG with Vista since my original post and it seems an excellent anti-virus program.

Thanks George for the excellent advice!

P.S. I'd always avoided AVG because I thought free = garbage.
