Angry Fire Brand New Dell w/Vista, 3 days old, OS NOT FOUND

I bought my gf a new Dell desktop last week. Has Vista on it....she used it for 3 days and it started acting funny. Wouldn't minimize windows, etc....then upon a reboot attempt, it comes up "Operating system not found" and it won't do anything with the recovery CD either.

Apparently, according to Dell, this has been a major problem with their computers in the past couple weeks. Thousands of people have reported the same issue. "They're working on it"

YAY.

Is this just happening with dell? Or is it happening with all computers loaded with Vista? Because if its just dell then Vista shouldn't be the problem.

It's a Vista problem, according to Dell tech support. "They" are feverishly working on a resolution for the problem, apparently. I seem to remember having a very similar problem way back in the day with a Packard Bell with the "brand new" windows 95 on it. lol. I don't have the computer in my possession, she has it, so I haven't "seen" what it does. But she claims it'll work fine for awhile, then all of a sudden just start acting weird...and stranger each time she reboots...until finally, it won't boot at all. "Operating System not found" lol. It's a good thing SHE has it and not me, because I'd throw it out the window. lol.

And yes, IF she continues to have problems with Vista, she is going to wipe it and put XP on it.

Ya I was just wondering because I thought if dell was having problems then everyone should have problems but, apparently not. But thats ok dell will figure it out eventually. And just to confirm if this a wide spread problem or is it just happening to dell?

Ya thats what I had thought because I have an acer laptop with Vista and it didn't have any problems with vista at least not yet anyway.
EDIT* IMO I think Dell telling you its Vista is complete BS, they are just putting the blame on Vista because they can. Basically any computers having problems or failures, the finger will most likely be pointed at Vista automatically, because whether its true or not, it makes Vista look bad and the Computer Manufacture can still uphold its reputation.

But thats just my opinion,

YukonMaster

So maybe they have it misconfigured or some of their software or hardware has a compatibility issue. They will get it figured out, that's what engineers are for. Nobody is perfect.

That doesn't mean that EVERYBODY is not having problems.
