An original thought-but so obvious its probably been in every magazine and site.
Take a matchstick or toothpick etc and tightly wrap the tip with some scotch tape, masking tape , band aid etc with the sticky side out. Use it to remove crud from the rollers. |

I typically use a paper clip and a pair of tweezers on my rollers. Seems to work fairly well. Maybe someday I can get a female mouse and not have to worry about it any more.

I usually use Q-Tips dipped in rubbing alcohol to get the crud off of the rollers and wash the ball with soap and water.

Those days are behind me now. I just got my Logitech cordless optical and it's the best of both worlds. Time will tell on the battery life though. They claim 2-3 months.
