Tips and Tricks has been empty lately, so...

Here's one I just figured out for how to fix the problem of IE not starting maximized each time you open a new window from the desktop (or QuickLaunch). Under Tools->Internet Options, set your homepage to:

Javascript:resizeTo(1024,768);

Just replace 1024 and 768 with your respective screen sizes (or smaller dimensions if you just wan't a "medium" window) and then open a new IE window. You lose your homepage but at least you get a quick loading big window. Note that this doesn't fix it so that the window opens maximized from Right Click->Open in New Window.
