Tip of the day Change your Program Files Location

The tip of the day a while back for default location where a program will install went like this....

Quote:
To place Program Files in a location of your choice, open up your registry editor and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion. You will see a key for "ProgramFilesDir". You can edit that registry key to point to a directory of your choice. From then on, the installation wizards of most software will, by default, ask to install themselves to this location.
I have used this before because like many people I like to store progs & files on a seperate disk to my op system. There's one glitch i've come across though once you've done the above outlook express will no longer run
any ideas anyone

thanks for the tip, the fix mentioned is for win2k, i'm running XP sp2. I looked at it to see if it was the same, I discovered that I have 2 outlook express folders 1 in the original location on c: and another on the drive where I install all my programs. The problem is you cant delete either,I primarily run outlook which apparently shares some files with express so if you try to delete you get the message files in use by another program
