Windows Messenger - Leave me alone!

Is it just me, or did microsoft really make it hard to get rid of Messenger (not the one you install seperately, but the built in one). I uninstalled it, removed it from the registry, removed it from startup, blocked it with my personal firewall and I STILL get messages from people that see me as 'online', even when the service is supposed to be off. FUN!

Send a message via MSN to netnamakan
To completely remove it, go to start>run and type in :
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

and you should be messenger free

Did you turn it off thru Add/Remove programs? It may have been removed but if you use outlook express or the MS Office form of outlook ive had it reinstall the windows messenger before so that might be wheres its getting you.

I turned mine off in the bootup file. Start/Run..enter "msconfig"...click startup tab...uncheck msmsgs. Seems every program you install now wants to be booted up everytime you start your computer. Its just rudeness on the part of the companies writing the software...in my opinion.

Its a great place to go to stop programs which are bogging down the time it takes for your computer to boot up...FYI

It worked for me. I also don't have the office suite...just MSWord.
