Change default My Documents to something else.
Getting tired of everything defaulting to "My documents", when you want to save something?
Change it to any valid folder on any hard drive. Open Regedit, navigate to HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell folders Look for the "Personal" key, right click on it, select Modify, and where it says "My documents", change that to anything you like. |

The same can also be accomplished by right clicking on "My documents" >Properties>Target Folder Location. It will prompt to create the folder if it doesn't already exist. I call mine "data" because it's short and sweet.

It works with the shortcut on the desktop ...
I should have clarified that this is with Win98. It's the shortcut on the desktop that has to be right clicked. It works with the first and second edition.
With Win95, things are a little bit different. The desktop shortcut is selected, then Shortcut tab, and then 'change target'. The target folder, unlike with Win98, has to be created first. With both OS, the target can be on another drive. This was not tried on WinME or Win2000. |
