Your machine will shutdown when the process is completed. 4: Install your new mainboard and any other hardware, when you boot it up Windows should launch a mini setup wizard, similar to the normal 2000/XP install... The setup should prompt you for drivers it does not have, so lucky you that you downloaded them in step 1 Possible issues with Sysprep: Unsupported Scenarios STOP 0x0000007B or INACCESSABLE_BOOT_DEVICE 'The Password Is Not Valid' error in recovery console. Not true. All this does is reset the hardware portion of the registry - it leaves your applications alone.

If you read the repair install thread, there's a trick in there that avoids a repair install - changing the IDE drivers to standard dual IDE. The IDE drivers are the only thing preventing you from simply booting back up into Windows. The link you reference to the 7B stop error addresses this.

A friend sent me the link to the thread and I thought it was an interesting method... I didn't have a chance to try it yet... so I just copied and pasted it here to see if anyone had any input on it.

These instructions, as well as the method glc references, are all well and good IF you can still boot with the old hardware. Most of the time the need for a new mobo is precipitated by the old one failing completely. That failure leaves you with the only option being a repair install of XP. Time to dig out the Slipstreamed SP2 disk and use the exisiting Product Key (if the label is on the case!).
