The properties of the explorer shortcut may now be showing as
'C:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.EXE /n,/e,C:\' [without the quotes] ... change the C:\ at the end to where ever you want it to point to. If it does not exist, just make a new shortcut using this target in the properties box. One option to launch explorer is to use the shortcut key ... then you could just press ctrl + Alt + E or Ctrl + shift + E ... [use spacebar to set it back to 'none'].

Thanks Archie, I was looking for a shortcut command that would only open a list of drives listed under "My Computer", not a specific Drive. Is there such a command? Can't seem to find a way!

Hi Glelef, I'm not exactly sure on what you want it to look like or what you want to do but if it's just to view the files, here's another option using File Manager, a remnant of win 3.x ... Start>Run>type 'winfile'. On the toolbar, go to 'window'> new window for as many drives to be shown as there are, and then Window again and tile horizontally. After that, on the view tab, put checkmark on 'save settings on exit', exit File Manager, start it up again and take the checkmark off 'save settings on exit'. Notice that the file names are truncated ... so it may be wise to test before using for copying [never used it like that] but if all you want is to view the files, that may work for you.

If you want the explorer option still, can you clarify a bit on what you want it to look like ... What you're looking for may just be a way to save the settings on exit once it looks the way it needs to be.

Edit > after checking on whether files are truncated when copying using File Manager, the test shows that it does indeed ... just as they are displayed in the File Manager ... so it's best not to copy files using this method.

Archie, I continuously appreciate the response. What I am looking for is explorer to open and show on the left hand side window (Folders View), a list of all my drives and nothing else. the reason for this is I am working with multiple drives at different times and when I have a particular drive selected for explorer to open there are to many directories and I can not see the drives below.
I will give you a diagram Of what I'm looking for when I open explorer.

Left hand side of explorer window:

Folders
Desktop
My Computer
A drive
C drive
D drive
E drive
F drive
Etc.
There are no open drives with directories listed below them. Can this be done? not a big deal-It is only for convenience!
Thanks gman

glelef: Opening explorer with window/E will give you exactly what you want.

glc, thanks, but at the risk of sounding like an idiot-I'm not really sure what you mean. Could you detail for me?

Hold the Windows key down on your keyboard (its between the left side Ctrl and Alt keys on mine) and hit the E key. You are too dependent on your mouse - there are a lot of keyboard shortcuts built into Windows.

GLC does it again ... That would do exactly what you want Glelef. Some of the other shortcut using the windows key are: WinKey+F=Find, Winkey+R=Run, Winkey+D=minimize all windows.

archie, many thanks for your reply to glelef's query. I have been looking for a way to do what you described for many moons but thought it too petty to ask.
My sys files are on c:\ but the files I use daily are on D:\ I know it was only a couple of clicks on the mouse but it always bugged me. Thanks again.
PS another couple of keyboard shortcuts I use frequently are Winkey+Pause, goes to Device Manager, Winkey+M minimises all open windows and Winkey+ F1 brings up Windows help.

The Windows key was introduced with Win95. The other new key is the Menu key - it does the same thing as a right mouse click.

The menu key is the one between the winlogo key and Ctrl on the right lower side. I gotta admit I didn't know that it acted as a right mouse click ... these keyboard tricks are useful to know for when the mouse isn't working properly.
