Have you tried deleting them in safe mode?

Oh, it's good to know that that Unlocker is a legit proggie. I was just looking at it to-day, as I had to delete the System Volume Info folder, but didn't want to download it because I wasn't sure.

If nothing else, slave the drive and delete whatever you want.

That doesn't always work; some files retain their attributes and refuse to be deleted.

In my experience, you can always delete problem files on and ntfs partition from a linux livecd with appropriate ntfs-3g support:

Extra unwanted files on external

That should be a nice thing to try, as some of those pesky files were still not deleted by Unlocker.

Hi

If you use Malwarebytes it also has an included app called File Assassin that will delete almost anything. It's under the "More Tools" tab.

Why are undeletable files made unless it's by a malware writer or by the writer of the OS who knows certain files must remain for the OS to work? Are they written by compnies like Symantec who make it damn near impossible to completely remove their software in order to try to force you into being a customer?

In these case these folders and files were created by Sophos antivirus. It basically created nested folder under nested folded under nested folder till the path became too long. When trying to delete it gives you an error message saying that the filename is too long.

How to erase unerasable files

There a number of reasons some files cannot be deleted. Some have been mentioned here, but another, that relates to Nuclear Krusader’s post is simply poor coding- whether because the files are deep inside a hierarchy of folders or simply once the program is removed, the attributes are changed or corrupted for files remaining and the O/S assumes they art critical and refuses to allow them to be removed.

I find Revo Uninstaller to be an excellent solution to removing stubborn applications. Use it instead of Windows built in add/remove programs. I also run a file and registry cleaner afterwards, in case anything is missed.

Killdisk will wipe the whole drive - looks to me like the OP simply wants to nuke a few files.

Also - check the posting dates, please.
