XP- Backing Up the Registry
You should always back up the Registry before installing any new program or Demo. If the program causes problems (either when installed or after a bad uninstall) you can restore the copy of the Registry you made prior to installing the program.
Win XP comes with a System Restore but for a simple Registry restore or backup, I think it's a bit like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Anyway, I believe it's a good idea to back up the Registry with another program to provide a second, independent backup. No Windows version is infallible. These two programs do exactly that. http://home.t-online.de/home/lars.he...runt/index.htm http://www.backtec.com/ers9x.htm The first is free and the second costs a small fee. Of the two, I think the Restore process of ERS is the simplest. Just pop in your special Bootdisk, type ERS, select the backup you want, and that's it. I'm sure there are other programs and methods of backing up the XP Registry but this provides two easy methods to start the ball rolling. |
