Angry Fire Help! New build, blown PSU.

Hello. I just put my new system together and ran into a problem. When I powered up my hard drive turned, cpu fan turned, and cd rom lit up but I had no video. I shut the system off and checked everything out and when I tried to power back up the cpu fan turned for a few seconds and then the power supply droped out. I pulled it apart and discovered that the fuse for the incoming voltage was blown. It is a 350w power supply. The system is an ECS Mobo with AMD xp 1500 cpu. Any sugestions? Do you think I fried my mobo & cpu? Thanks.

Usually replacing the fuse doesn't help that's why they have the little seal on the PS, cause they don't really want you in there, and if yours has that little seal that says warranty void if seal is broken, then you may have a little trouble returning it.
Just a thought, wonder what video card your trying to run?? Hope it's not a 3.3v card running on a board supplying 1.5v!

You were right. Replacing the fuse didnt help. I'm not sure what voltage the card is. I pulled it out of my old system. It is a pci ATI Mach 64. How bad have I screwed up? If it is the wrong voltage have I fried my mobo/cpu? If not what power supply do you recomend? Also I have a ATI Radeon 7000 agp video card is this card compatable with the ECS k7s5 mobo. As far as the power supply goes keep in mind my case has two 80mm fans and a 12" cold cathode light so is the 350w sufficient?

If it's a PCI card then your fine there, it's the AGP cards that have went from 3.3 to 1.5 volts, and I don't think it would blow anything putting the older card in a newer MOBO, just won't work. Just curious, if this is a new build, why use a PCI video???
Being new you should be able to return things, You'll need to start with the PS and MOBO. 350w, should be sufficient, but just to get it up and working, start with minimal components and get it loaded, then add nonessentials one at a time!

Actually, using a PCI video card is recommended for basic troubleshooting. Time to use the "out of the case" troubleshooting procedures as detailed in the "problems with a new build" thread here. You may have the board shorted to the case. Don't be surprised if the motherboard is defective, ECS is not known for their quality control.

I used the pci card because the the Radeon I had ordered had not come in yet. I am picking up a new psu today. I'll pull everything out of the case and try to power up that way. If it doesnt pwer up how can I tell if it is the mobo or cpu that is bad? I read that if there is heat coming from the cpu/heatsink that the cpu is fine. Is this true? Anyway to check the mobo short of sending it back to ecs? All of the help is much appreciated guys. Thanks, Keith.

OK guys, I replaced my psu today.I bought an Enlight 340w. I took everything out of the case and tried powering up with only 1 stick of ram and the Radeon video card. When I shorted the pwr on switch connections on the mobo absolutely nothing happened. I removed the front panel from the case so I could plug in the power and rest buttons and when I pushed them still nothing. I have fried the mobo? Do you think that the cpu is screwed too?

You won't know untill you get a new mainboard which is what you'll need to do and go from there!
