This may have been posted in the past but.........
You can copy msconfig.exe from the Windows/system folder of any Win98 machine and place it the Windows/system folder of a Win95 machine and the msconfig.hlp from 98 to 95 in the Windows help folder. It works just fine. You can also copy defrag.exe from the new WindowsME and put it in Win95 machines and it just flys compared to the original and all the new options work too. In one of my 95 machines it allowed defrag to finally run all the way through when it had never done so before. |

None of these solutions worked for me.
MSCONFIG was first try, as I had used it succesfully in Win98. Put a copy from Win98 into the Win95 machine. The only 2 items shown on start up tab are: System tray.exe and Browser Web check. Delisted/Unchecked both but the offending items still appear on boot up. Downloaded the 'Start up Cop' and 'Tweak All ' programs- Same problem- offending items not listed. This leaves the dreaded REGEDIT which us lamers are warned not to mess with, but ill have to unless anyone has another idea. What I'm trying to get rid of are a "Insert disc Win 95' Copying files 3mm.dll not found, and a 'Enter Windows password.' Thanks. |
