I read that x-setup is used for changing the "hidden" settings and there are over 500 of them.
Do you have to be an expert tweaker to get use from it? Is it easy to undo the changes? Since they are "hidden" settings, I don't even know what they are to know if I want to change them. To get an idea of an example, what are 2-3 of the more common settings you would recommend users to change? |

My Own Experience
When I first stumbled on XSetup (ver 5.5) it was the greatest. I was running Win98 and it could change anything.
After being a standard install in every win98 installation I moved over to Win2k. Xsetup said it was compatible so why not off we went. Sadly enough I got my win2k setup messed up(and win2k is really touchy about its registry) and I reinstalled but it crashed again when using xsetup 5.7 When made a change you have to write it down yourself since the program won't remember it for you and tell which date each change was made through this program. Which could be usefull, when needing to find setting among 500 which caused you machine to crash. (Since no bothers doing a change, reboot, change, reboot, change, reboot and so on as most changes seems pretty harmless) Now I have accepted the joys of TweakUI, and with the new version 1.33 I'm quite satisfied and don't need any other changes than what it can offer besides : 1. Changing all files to have "Open as" in their right click menu(to avoid pressing shift while doing it) 2. Changing all unknown files to open with notepad But that is just my own personal settings I bet each user on their level have their favorite picks |
