1TB = 1024GB
1GB = 1024MB
1MB= 1024KB
1KB = 1024 bytes
1Byte=8 bits
1 bit = a "1" or a "0"

Notice the 1024 factor. 1024 = 2^10 while 10^2 = 1000. Hard Drive makers use 10^2 KB as Megabyte while most operating systems and RAM makers use 2^10 KB as a MegaByte.

Officially there are 1024 bytes in a kilobyte, and 1024 kilobytes in a megabyte, and 1024 megabytes in a gigabyte. However, sometimes this is rounded off to 1000 (especially by hard drive manufacturers). A 10 "gigabyte" hard drive may only contain 10,000,000,000 bytes - which is really 9.31 gigabytes.

gotcha ya, thanks

ok, thanks tons everyone!

I had the 1024 for each, and then for some reason when I figured up the math for the megabyte, it just didn't look right.

appreciate the effort from everyone!

...don't you wish that bios, utilities and various system tools would put a comma in every 3 digits when quoting byte numbers.....the other day I thought I had found a 3GB HDD, then I counted the digits and realised it was only 300MB...but then again it didn't cost me anything!
