out look express tip
this is probably out dated but alot of ppl still use the outlook express programs.
The main thing I dont' like is how it displays a preview of an email when opened. With todays mass spams they put in programs that start popping up ads all over your screen and other annoying things. To turn off the preview go to View, then lay out. Then uncheck Show preview pane. Then you can delete emails easy with out opening. Like I said kinda old, but I know alot of people don't know this one.

Good type byte. The preview pane is also OE's biggest security hazard since it will run dangerous code automatically, so it should always be disabled.

I did not know that!!! I was under the impression that "preview" actually meant "pre" view.
That has to be how I got the only virus I've have ever had since I never open mail from unknown senders. I'm so glad I found this forum!! P.S.: Is there a forum for asking stupid questions???? |

Actually, I know lots of people who us Outlook Express, just because it comes with Windows and they don't want to buy anything else as long as it works.
I already knew the info the byte posted, but I bet a lot of people don't. |

I only use OE now because it's I guess a package deal with my isp, the phone co., so it's not really free. The local phone company here is the only isp provider not long distance. There are no local access #'s here. I use hotmail and the other free e-mails, but I prefer Juno. Have to use Juno web until we come out of the dark ages.
OK, just so I'm not just wasting space here..about OE: I can't get the mail rules to work correctly. If I set them to block out, say, anything refering to "home loans or mortgages" do I set it at "do not download from server" or "delete from server"? I've tried both but I still get junk with both setings. I asked this somewhere else before, but I can't find it now. |

In the mail rules, normallym use where the subject line contains
Add each word one at a time. then in the second place delete it from server. or in mycase, I made a folder called junkn and send it to that folder, so I can check and make sure I dont' filter something important by accident. |

Thanks! I'll try that. I just went to OE and no wonder I'm getting more the last few days. When I had to empty and reinstall everything the other day, I hadn't re-set my rules. I didn't think to make folder for that, I guess I'm just not wanting to look at that junk at all. I think if it's really important they'll use Ma Bell!
