Hi, just some info for others doing this, my files were too-big for floppy drive - so I went into outlook express Tools/options/maintence - then click on store folder - this is the root to where the files are stored. I then copied these to a cdr and then just copied this folder into C: documents and setting - user- application data.

The files are stored in *.dbx files. Just copy them to your new PC and set the path to that folder in Outlook Express. Done.

Strangely though I did a search for *.dbx on the full C: drive and the results was 0 files found.
I'm not sure what o/s you are using RJ but its not that easy with XP. Even though I have sorted this now XP dosen't see these files. |

I am using Windows XP, and yep it is as easy as I said. I already did that a few times. You should know, I have the dbx files not on C:, but on D: (data partition). So when I need to reformat I don't need to save certain files coz they are not on C:. After installing Windows XP I just opened outlook express, changed the path and that's it.
Before Windows XP I used Windows 98 SE, and currently I am sitting at my old PC with Windows 95A and IE 5.5. It's still the same. Dunno why you didn't get results for the dbx search. In Windows 98, when you go to C:\Windows\Application Data\Identities\{9F2B. . . .}\Microsoft\Outlook Express , there you should see the dbx files. In Windows XP it's nearly the same, just that the Application Data Folder location has changed. It's not a subfolder of Windows anymore, it's something like C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Local Settings\Application Data. . . I believe. Can't check that now as my PC (with WinXP) is not working at the moment. RJ Last edited by RJ; 12-18-2002 at 05:38 AM. |

Have you tried importing messages into OE from a store directory - and pointing it to your CD or where you copied the stores to?

Hi glc
I tried it the way you mentioned and for some strange reason it wouldn't import the files. Ive done it this way in win 98 in the past but not with XP I have now sorted this by going into outlook express and finding were the files are stored. I then copied these files into documents and setting/user/application data, and set outlook to look in theses ares. |
