Getting rid of addresses that show up in IE address bar
If you ever want to get rid of the site addresses that automatically appear as you start typing an address, try this:
Make sure IE is closed and not running. Go into c:\windows\cookies Rename index.dat Delete it Start IE I tried this with IE6 SP1on my win98SE O/S, so I'm not sure how it will fair on 2000/XP.

You can also do this in IE by opening Tools-->Internet Options and click clear history under the General tab. If you reduce the number of days you keep old addresses it helps keep these down.

I did that first. That doesn't get rid of the addresses in the address bar when it becomes a pull-down.

That's odd. It has always worked for me on all of my computers. I just did it again to be certain.

Tools > internet options > content > auto complete
No, I didn't try that earlier. I did now and it cleared it. Oh well... I guess this isn't a real trick then.
