Laptop Desk Futura

Laptop computers make a lot of heat. This leads to some problems:

  • Heat that can’t escape the computer will boil the insides to death. Literally.
  • Heat will weaken electrical connections and reduce the life of the hardware inside your laptop.
  • Guys, using a laptop directly on your lap can affect your fertility. Heat on the jewels isn’t good for the little swimmers within.

This is why I recommend the Laptop Desk Futura, from Lapworks. I use one of these things every single time I use my laptop. If I am using the laptop on a desk or table, I use the Futura to give the computer an incline. This increases airflow for the cooling fans inside my laptop. Not to mention it makes using the keyboard a lot easier. If I am using the laptop in my lap, I lay the Futura out flat and place it on my lap. This provides:

  • Better cooling by keeping the computer off my pants.
  • Protects my family life from the heat of the computer
  • Provides a more stable surface for the computer than my lap

It is amazing to me that such a simple device can be so useful. And did you know that Lapworks is the only company that is offering these things?

The Futura desk is only $29.95. You can read my review of it here.

What Are Others Saying?

10/16/07, Ars Technica - “The Futura lapdesk is such a neat little product. This is a great accessory for writers or telecommuters who just want to get out of the damn house.”

08/21/07 ZDNet- “The price is right and the unit is compact and light enough to fit in my gadget bag with no problem.”

08/17/07 The Gadgeteer - “It makes a great travel companion to use at the airport as a lap desk and then at the hotel as a stand. It packs easily too. Another advantage of this accessory is that the ventilation slots in the stand allow air to flow below and around the laptop, so that it runs cooler than it would if it was sitting on a flat surface.”

We’re not the only ones who dig this thing.
