Windows 7 Pre-Order, Where’s The 64-Bit Edition(s)?

From June 26 to July 11 2009 you can buy Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade (and yes you can upgrade from XP) for $49.99. It’s a great deal. My recommendation is to purchase from Amazon at www.amazon.com/windows7. Why? Because you get a fully boxed edition with free shipping. To the best of my knowledge, Amazon is one of the few vendors doing that; the rest are charging for ship.

My recommendation: Buy Windows 7 now, or at least do it before July 11.

I have already somewhat bought Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade. I say ‘somewhat’ because I won’t actually be charged until October 22, 2009 when the OS is actually released.

The question at this point is: Where’s the 64-bit edition? There seems to be no option to purchase it.

Well, it so happens that in itty bitty teeny tiny print at the bottom of the Windows 7 pre-order page, there is a blurb on this:

So there you go. Home Premium and Professional includes both the 32 and 64-bit discs. Question answered.

What does “packaged product” mean? It must come in the box. If you elect to use the downloaded version, both editions are most likely not included, so this is yet another reason to go with a boxed version.

What about the 64bit Ultimate version?

To the best of my knowledge, yes you get both 32 and 64-bit discs on purchase of the boxed edition of Ultimate. However there is no pre-order discount option available for Ultimate Edition. The upgrade price of $219 will be the same now as it is when on the shelves on Oct 22. Full version for Ultimate will be $319.

It’s only worth it to pre-order if going for Home Premium or Professional.

I thought so but didn’t know for sure. I get back to the states a month after the release. I’m not sure when I will make the jump to Win7.
