I’ve always felt that upon introduction to the market, e-readers have been far too expensive for what they are.
But no longer.
Apple’s iPad has more or less forced e-reader competitors to aggressively, and I mean aggressively, drop the prices on their e-reader products.
If you were considering buying one either for yourself or as a gift for someone else, getting an e-reader now is a good buy. You’ll get somewhere between 3 to 4 years out of it, and for the price they’re being sold for, they’re now finally worth the price.
A recent article describes what’s available to you, but here are your best options:
- Barnes & Noble’s Nook ($149)
- Amazon’s Kindle ($189)
Which should you get? I’m actually more particular to the Nook solely because it can be used at actual Barnes & Noble stores. The Kindle may have more selection for books, but Nook has the in-store support. It’s also cheaper.
Upon read of the linked article above, you may think, “If the e-reader market is solidifying, why would I bother buying one of these?” The reason is as said above – e-readers are now actually worth their price. Three or four years worth of genuinely good use out of an electronic reader is definitely a deal at 150 bucks.
Besides which, either makes for a fantastic gift idea, so if you have a friend or relative with a birthday coming up, you’ll be sure to wow them with an e-reader.
