The Ultimate Sync-All?

Given the fact there are more Mac (and possibly Linux) subscribers in PCMech Premium, I’m attempting to find more utilities that are cross-platform capable. Even if your primary OS is Windows, you most likely use other OSes from time to time such as OS X or Linux.

A sync utility is important so you can, obviously, synchronize files between computers. There are several options available, but few that absolutely work across all platforms, and even fewer that have a free option.

There is one however that does offer the promise of working and syncing between Windows, Mac OS X, Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora and openSUSE: SpiderOak.

The basic SpiderOak account offers a free 2GB of cloud storage. Granted, this isn’t much space, but the fact SpiderOak works across so many platforms (and yes, iPhone included) and has unlimited devices you can connect to the service, it’s definitely worth checking out.

If SpiderOak does truly deliver on the promise of being fully cross-compliant, it’s is the best you can use for sync purposes.

I have not personally used it yet, but will shortly. My next article will be on how well or not well SpiderOak works. Hopefully it’s a good one. Stay tuned.
