Basics Of GIMP 2.6.11 [Video]

I recently delved back into the world of GIMP in Windows. It still has that wonky separated-window interface, but it is a whole lot better than it used to be. It’s also far more stable. The video in this article teaches you the basics of how to use the software.

GIMP is a free image editor (for Windows, Mac or Linux), and a powerful one at that. It’s arguably the best free image editor that exists. When you want better, you have to go paid like with Adobe Photoshop.

    Rich, Thank you.
Very nice ice breaker movie into GIMP.

Can you show to re-size an image for uploading photo’s to Facebook for example? When you upload photo’s to Facebook as your ID photo they get cut oddly. I resized mine with GIMP in Ubuntu, however I stretched it oddly and my face looks a little long. Help please.

@MikeM You’re referring to cropping and scaling. The best way to go about it would be to crop first, scale next, sharpen last. Then maybe crop again for touch-up. In the next video I do on GIMP I’ll instruct how to do all that, plus a few extras. My instructions on the Windows platform should be identical to how to do it in Ubuntu as the menus as supposed to be the same regardless of OS.
