You might be entertaining the idea of purchasing an Apple computer. With PCs, you already know how to research them and do so easily, but how do you get info on a Mac before buying one? How do you get to the truly useful information such as, "Does [insert Mac model here] have a high failure rate?" or "Have there been reported problems with [insert Mac model here]?"
The absolute best way to research a Mac before buying it is to check out the Apple Discussions forums, and then specifically search for the model of Apple computer you intend to buy to see if there are any current known hardware problems. Apple like any other computer OEM does at times release stinkers (ex: the 20-inch-screen iMac did have a run of bad monitors), so it is definitely within your best interest to go to the Discussions area and read up thoroughly before buying.
In addition, it is absolutely 100% true that the safest way to buy a Mac is to purchase one that’s been on the market for at least 3 months. "Just like if you were buying a PC?" Yes. Electronics are electronics, after all. Any major issues that would appear with a new model of Apple computer will be talked about at length in Discussions over the course of 90 days.
