One aspect that’s often overlooked when putting together a gaming setup is the chair. You’ll spend hundreds, if not thousands on a new PC, but completely overlook the comfort of the setup, whether that be the height of the desk or the comfort of the chair.

Any regular chair just isn’t going to do. After a long gaming session, your back can begin to ache, or at least your lumbar area. In fact, you might already have what you consider to be a “good” chair, but it has poor support for your lower back — this is a real pain during a long session.

Of course, it’s a hard decision to make — should one buy what many would consider to be the best gaming chair on the market, or upgrade another component of your PC setup.

Unfortunately, many gamers miss just how important a good gaming chair is. Sure, that graphics card upgrade or 4K monitor might take your gaming to a whole new level, but it’s not going to be nearly as fun if you’re finding out that you don’t want to play because your lumbar area hurts a little too much that night.

This is why we’ve collected a list of the best gaming chairs for you. Follow along below, and we’ll help you take your comfort during gaming to a whole new level.

What to look for in a gaming chair

If you sit around a lot playing video games, a gaming chair couldn’t be more important for your long-term health. It’s helpful for even your immediate health. After all, good seating and posture can prevent muscle spams, back aches and other problems. And any old chair you’ve got in the basement or attic just isn’t going to do — you’re going to need something with proper support for those long-term sessions.

One of the things to look for in the best gaming chairs is adaptive properties. For example, you’re going to want to adjust portions of your chair to your body, such as the armrest, lumbar and other adjustments. Everyone’s body is different, so finding something that can make you feel most comfortable is important. These are some of the adaptive properties you should look for:

  • Lumbar: Adaptable and good lumbar support is important for long gaming sessions because it supports your lower back, which, when gaming, is usually the first thing to start aching. Adaptable and good lumbar support in the best gaming chairs will keep you comfortable for hours on end.
  • Armrest: A height-adjustable armrest is always good to have, mostly for comfort purposes. It gives you a better place to rest your arms when they’re not on the desk reaching for the keyboard and mouse.
  • Tilt: Adjustable tilt is another important factor for reclining. If you recline back, you want it to only lean to a comfortable position — you don’t want it leaning too far back or not leaning at all. Adjustable tilt will help you find your own comfortable tilt position for the chair.

DX Racing Chair

The DX Racing Chair is one of the best gaming chairs on the market, and the price shows it. It’s built with a great ergonomic design, bringing comfort and support together. It has an excellent lumbar support, keeping your lower back safe and comfortable during long sessions.

This chair has a higher backrest, allowing you to keep your neck and upper spinal area in line as well. This is so that you don’t develop any unfortunate posture positions that could develop over time. The armrests have a 90-degree 4-dimensional adjustment for adjusting to your personal preference.

What’s particularly unique about this chair is the fabric used — it’s made out of a breathable race car seat material, Carbon Look Vinyle and PU Cover. This soft material is comfortable and great for long gaming sessions.

With your purchase, you get a bunch of free bonuses: an additional headrest cushion and a lumbar cushion. You can pick this up on Amazon for just under $400 below. They come in a wide variety of different colors, too.

Steelcase Leap

If you’re looking for a truly ergonomic chair, one that takes practicaility and function over style, the Steelcase Leap is the way to go.

This chair is built with Steelcase’s own livelumbar technology, which flexes with your movements so you always have the support and comfort. It has “liveback” technology as well, which mimics the natural spine shape, and then conforms to yours, allowing you to stay comfortable for longer periods of time.

The Steelcase Leap even encourages different postures. It has a “glide” system that keeps you visually oriented and able to reach your work when you recline. Armrests are also adaptable in a lot of different positions, too. The only real downside to this chair is that its not necessarily the most stylish option out there — it doesn’t have that “gaming style” that many gaming-specific chair takes on. This chair in particular is more geared towards offices, but with its superior ergonomics, you’ll find it’s a perfect fit as one of the best gaming chairs for your longer sessions.

You can find this chair on Amazon for just under $1000. There are tons of different color combinations available as well.

Eurotech Ergohuman

Eurotech makes an excellent swivel chair called the Ergohuman. There’s excellent craftsmanship with this chair, offering a lot of great function found in the DX Racing Chair. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have the style, but it does have tilt tension control (allows you to control the tension of when you recline) as well as a tilt lock (allows you to lock in your maximum tilt distance).

As comes standard with these chairs, there is a seat height adjustment. There’s great lumbar support as well (although it’s not adjustable). This chair is about as comfortable as they come. It only comes in one color — black. You can pick it up on Amazon below for $570.

X Rocker 51259 Pro H3

This X Rocker gaming chair isn’t the best for PC gaming, but it’s perfect for the console gamers out there. The biggest difference is that the chair isn’t on wheels and simply sits on the floor. Comfort is the biggest plus with this recliner, allowing you to relax at the floor level while giving you a great view of the TV.

It’s fabric, has a great padded headrest, and can even be folded in half for easy storage. It, of course, comes with great lumbar support, vibration motors and even has 4 built-in speakers to give you an immersive audio experience. There’s even a built-in subwoofer to maximize your audio experience. There’s also a built-in wireless radio receiver that should work with any Bluetooth source (there’s physical RCA ports built into the side of the chair as well).

This chair, for what you get, isn’t too pricey. It sits around $167, and can even be lower depending on current sales and promotions. An alternate version is available with a stand for better height during PC gaming.

Which should you buy?

It can be a difficult decision choosing what to buy, but really, it depends on your budget. If you don’t have a whole lot of money, the X Rocker 51259 Pro H3 is a great choice. It’s a little uncomfortable for PC gaming, but an alternate version is available with a stand for better comfort and height for PC gaming. If you’re looking for a mid-range chair and have some cash, the DX Racing Chair is your next best option, and might even be enough for most.

If you’re looking for the cream of the crop, the Steelcase Leap is a great choice for its ergonomics and function. Lastly, the Ergohuman by Eurotech is another great choice as an alternative to the Steelcase Leap. It’s not nearly as pricey, which might make it a better choice for those that don’t want to drop a thousand dollars on a chair. No matter what you choose, you’re getting a great chair off this list.

Closing

By following the advice in this list, we hope we helped you make a decision on one of the best gaming chairs. The downside to shopping for a gaming chair is that they can range widely in price, and not everyone has hundreds of dollars to drop on “just” a chair.

However, it’s important to remember that if you plan on continuing long gaming sessions, dropping hundreds of dollars on a chair isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It really is an investment in your health, as sitting in a bad chair for extended periods of time can cause some damage to your back and muscles. Either way, we showed you some quality chairs for those on a budget, are in the mid-range or are even in the high range. Ultimately, we do recommend the DX Racing Chair, as that’s easily the best computer chair for long hours.
