It might seem like a daunting task to start creating your own screencasts, but it’s actually very easy. There’s also little to no cost involved, as there’s tons of free tools/recording software available to you on the Internet.
CamStudio has been our go-to option for awhile now, and it works wonderfully. It’s free, low maintenance and you won’t ever have a problem with it.
It’s also extremely easy to use. All you have to do once installed is press the red recording button and you can start making your own videos. However, there might be a handful of configurations you want to add to it.

Setting up CamStudio
Setting it up is simple. Mostly, all you’re going to have to do is choose what region you want to record (e.g. full screen, a window or your own fixed region) and make sure your audio options are setup in that you can record audio and that CamStudio is recognizing the microphone plugged into your PC.
So, once you open the software from installing it, click on the “Region” tab. You can select different options and play around with them, but in my case, full screen has always worked best.
Next, you’ll just want to move over to the “Options” tab and make sure Record audio from microphone is enabled. In that same tab, under “Audio Options,” you’ll want to click on Audio Options for Microphone.
Under the dropdown, if you have a microphone plugged in, you’ll want to select here. Once you have, just press OK and you’re ready to start recording.
And that’s all there is to it! CamStudio is a relatively easy tool to setup and get started with, so by following the steps above, you’ll be able to create your own screencasts in no time!
